Torn pictures can be successfully electronically stitched back together provided not too much of the picture has been lost along the torn edge(s).
Each separate piece is scanned using the exact same scanner settings, without automatic corrections.
In this example, the picture had been torn and the two halves were kept together by a piece of yarn through the punched holes. The torn edges looked like they could be realigned with minimal 'fill' required along the join line. After the two halves were joined, the background and other artifacts were cleaned up, and the brightness and contrast were adjusted. Sepia toning was added to complete the old time look.
